The Chauvin Arnoux Pylon Tower test kit, notably the CA6474, works with the CA6472 earth tester to measure and analyze pylon earthing systems precisely. It performs global earth resistance tests of pylons, assesses the earth resistance of each pylon footing, and verifies the overhead protective earth cable connection quality. This system supports both active measurements, injecting test current via the CA6472, and passive measurements using stray currents.
The instrument operates over a wide frequency range from 41 Hz to 5078 Hz to analyze the frequency behavior of earthing systems, which helps evaluate responses to lightning strikes. Measurements span from 0.001 Ω to 99.99 kΩ with high accuracy (±5% + 1 digit). It can measure auxiliary rod resistance, detect noise interference, and warns if disturbance voltages exceed limits
